Hello..
Do you guys use any filter for every tank in your hatchery tanks setup ? If yes, what type/kind of filter?? Does a spongefilter enough for every tanks??
Since WC would be done everyday, is it possible to not using any filtration for the tank? Whats your experience guys?
Thanks
We have sponge filters in every tank... They are more like dust collecters with amount of water changes the fish get. However if something were to happen and the water changes could not be done your still safe.

Yes, just a bit more than a dirt magenet. A few folks run top filters.

I tend to go with the addage,if a little does a little good, then a lot will do a lot of good!!
I have sponge filters in the breeding tanks and also in the larger tanks, but I also have Aqua Clear 500 on all the larger tanks.

I agree with Mench. My main tank has about tripple the amount of bio filtration for the load. I try not to miss any water changes but I know Im well covered if I do. Rich

I LOVE my central trickle filters. Although I do have one bank of tanks that I use air driven sponge filters in. They are glass tanks that I would have to drill, which people here say is not that difficult. I just have to figure where to put the trickle filter if I change it over and how to run all the plumbing.

By the economical side, using sponge filters is cheaper than using top filter. But do a sponge filter is enough for a 100*50*50 cm tank ?? I've seen many tanks with that size using sponge filter, but the water get dirty easily. Do you use more than 1 sponge filter in every tank ???
How often and how much do you do WC everyday ?? Once a day about 25%, is it enough for discus ??

Id go with 50 percent a day if you can. some do even more...once your draining..mays well keep going. that is of course if your not using ro and have to make sure you can make enough water.

I want to ask also, how do you wipe out algae in your tank? If I do wipe the inside glass of the tank with my hand comes into the tank, would the discus become stressed ??? I have noticed discus run very fastly when I try to wipe the inside glass with my hand. Then for a couple of time they dont swim at all, just hiding behind the filter ( Are they get shocked ??? ) Is it bad for discus or is it normal ??
You have to get them used to it, mine just swim over to a corner and wait for me to finish with my Magfloat, the more you do it the better they will be when it comes time to clean.

My larger fish are now completely accostomed to my daily cleaning. In fact they do not get out of the way and make me move them at times. I can put my arm completely into the tank and even reach out and pet my fish, they swim righ into my hand.
My younger ones just huddle together in a pack and try to avoid me. Occasionally they still spook a bit.

yeah its very nice to see them not become stressed with my hand. Since discus is not an agressive fish I have fun with cleaning the glass. What happen if discus is just like flowerhorn or piranhas ;D The stressed one is not the fish, but me ;D
Thanks guys!
