Hi all,
Have a quick question.
I am condsidering painting my fishroom/office/RO assembly plant/Computer Assembly plant/Blah Blah Blah.
My question is:
Will painting the room harm my fish?
I will be using an interior latex paint and can ventilate the area pretty well.
I know Latex resins give off toxic fumes when curing, but how dangerous is this?
Are there some kind of precautions I can take to keep the fumes out of the tanks? (Covering the airpumps, etc)
Thanks for any and all info/responses,
RandalB

I painted mine w/o any problems at all. I just made sure there was plenty of ventilation and that was it.

RandalB,
I am in the process of repainting two rooms, the hallway, and foyer. That's alot of paint and paint fumes. I haven't seen any problems with any of the tanks in the house.

Maybe run some carbon on your tanks while your doing this, it cant hurt. ;D

Buy a roll of painters plastic and cut to length enough to cover your tanks, expecially if you're spraying. The fumes would probably be harmless if you're rolling the paint but I wouldn't risk it. Ventilate...

Latex paint is a must. Oil based would certainly cause problems.
Ventilate ventilate ventilate. ventilate. Oh yes, and don't forget to ventilate.
And when you're finished. ventilate some more. Covering the tanks is a good idea as well.
I recently painted part of my basement adjacent to the fish room. I had no problems using latex paint.

Hey Randal, I just laid hardwood floors & stairways in my home and finished them with 4 coats of Urathane!! I just covered the tanks with plastic, ventelated as best I could. No problems to report from here. Funny, it drove us out of the house because of the odor, but fish were OK. Dust was also a concern for me as there was alot of sanding taking place.

That's nice to know Gump. I'm preparing to d the same thing to my house and I was concerned...
