Hey, I'm planning to purchase a 65 Tall, 36x18x24, and am having a problem finding a decent looking stand that doesn't cost a fortune. any recommendations for online sites and/or chicago-area shops? i need somethign that can pass for furniture but will cost less than $300.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Any good with tools? I just built a 8" long double tank stand out of 2x4's for less than $30. I'll be covering it with Oak Paneling that should make it look real nice. Check the DIY section, some great Ideas there.
If not good with tools, Try:
Placing an ad at WWW.GCCA.NET; Greater Chicago Chichlid association, Free classifieds
Also, Try Odd Lots Pet shop at 7900 S. Harlem Bridgeview, Illinois. It's a little drive from Chicago but the guy has some great pricing. I got a stand for my 35 Hex with a full Hood for $100.00.
Hope this Helps!

Jeff,
What's the demensions of the 130 Tall?
RandalB
Going from memory I think it is 36" high x 24" wide x 18" deep. It is on a factory made stained pine cabinet. About 5 years old. Empty for about 1 year.

why not buy the stand from the tank manufacturer?
my lfs has a deal now with a 65g all glass, stand and hoodw/lights for less than 250 dollars. and then the tank is warranted

thanks for all the input, guys. my problem is that this will be a display tank in the living room so i can't got he cinder block and plywood route like i'm used to doing. i've thought of getting a nice piece from pottery barn or hold everything but i'm concerned that these pieces will not support the weight of a filled 65-gallon tank.

denny, what is your lfs? i'm having a hard enough time finding a 65-gallon tall in acrylic in chicago. it's hard to move a glass tank up and down chicago 3-flats.

sorry jason,
i missed the acrylic part. that is for a glass tank.
however, as a person who owns and operates a cabinetry business, i can say that if you want a quality display stand then you need to expect to pay a fair price for it.
if you are handy and have access to the right tools, you can save some money by furnishing the labor yourself.
otherwise, like i say allglass makes a stand for a 36wx24hx18d tank out of pine in a few different finishes that, while imo is not very good quality, it has a fairly low pricetag.

Build this one for 300.00 $CAD... Then again wood is cheap here in the great white North...
Dimensions are 8x2x2 (tank), the base is 33" high and the top holds 4 x 48" shop lights. The materials for the stand and top were 200.00 $CAD and the shoplights were 25.00$CAD each.

Denny;
Don't be so modest and post a picture of some of your custom aquarium cabinetry. This stuff looks BETTER than my furniture.
