A "new" disease ... your fish might have it

Crytobia ... symptoms show as Hexamita or Nematodes. This is an incurable paracite related to Hexamita and Spironucleus. Fish will waste away, showing a "knife-back" and emmaciation. I have this problem with some fish ... had the fish assessed by Dr. Ruth Francis-Floyd last year. The good news is it seems to attack slowly, and only a percentage of fish get it. Fish that have been stressed are at risk ... I've had breeding pairs who are extremely active come down with it (male beating up the female ...).

The bad news is there is no cure ... currently.

When you say this is a New disease in Discus I think You mean its now more commen in Discus.

So far Cryptobia branchialis, Cryptobia, bodomonas have been found in Discus since the early 80s. If You have the book Discus Health By Dieter Untergasser there's a very good write
up on Page 300. He even goes into cureing it on page 258
with metro at 500mg in water for 3 days. Then 5 days rest 3 days again. 5 day rest. Then move's on to an oral (systemic) treatment for 2 more weeks. During this time metro is also added to feed. If You need a copy let Me know.

IMO I believe this was one of the reasons why so many started to up there metronidazole Dose's to 500mg per 10Gals. instead of 250Mg per 10Gals

The hex can be easily cured the right medicine is Metronidazole which is avalaible under following names
1.Flagyl
2.Hex-a-mit

the second one can be brought from www.thatfishplace.com i have just placed oreder for it as mine i suffering from hole in the head disease.
and i am very much sure that hex can be cured i have cured it once and now it has infected my fishes again, if metranidazole dosent work you can try Dimetranidazole which is a water soluble version. both are absorbed through gills, but the medicine is active in water for very short time so u'l have to change water every other day about 50% for at least a week also add the same to there food, they will cure faster.Some people have reported that hax is growing resistant to metro so u may want to increase the dose if there is no improvement in the fish.

I have this one tank of juvies that show all the classic signs of hex.

I've even had slides scoped and saw flaggelates, they dont respond to metro at all.

they are healthy and happy with the temp at 94f, if I drop it back to 84-88, sick again.

could this be what I'm dealing with?
