Hi Everyone, :(

I would like some advise on de-capping bbs. I have tried hatching the conventional way and the results are turning out very poor (only 10% are hatching). I have read many articles on the forum and am interested in trying to decap the eggs to give a better yield. I have a 1 litre bbs hatcher and would like to now the quantity of water, salt and bleach and how long you leave the bleach in etc. Some of the treatments and tablets you have, I have not seen in England. Any advice would be welcome,

Thanks,

Hi Johnny,
I came across the following. I haven't tried it out myself but it just might work. Hope this helps..

"Decaping BSE is not difficult but it may take a little practice. I don't
have a lot of time so I use a short cut method that has worked well for me.
Place 1 tablespoon of eggs and 1.5 cup's of fresh water in a hand blender
cup or a conventional blender and blend on low for 10 minutes to soak the
shells of the eggs. After 10 minutes, add 3/4 cup of bleach and blend on
low for 5 to 10 minutes. In a clear blender it's easier to see about the
progress of the shell stripping. It's important to strip enough of the
shell to get to the orange color interior. I then rinse the eggs thoroughly
under tap water in a brine shrimp net. I then add some chlorine removal
solution to neutralize any leftover bleach. These are the basic directions
I use and it works well for me. However, a little experimentation is
necessary to get it right and right means getting the eggs to a state where
most of your fish will eat them. Some egg houses in Utah have cans of zero
hatch eggs for $2-$3 per can and at that price, decapping makes more sense.
Also, my fish seem to prefer the eggs I decap over the commercially
available decapped eggs."
