Hi simply poeple.

I need to give my discus a formalin bath tonight (gill flukes). I can not get Flubendazole in South Africa but got formalin at a pharmacy. Is it 2 drops per gallon? and for what period? The discus is 2" and breathing heavy. One gill is very swollen. Please help.

Thanks
Lorret

Hi,
I have used formalin (37%)at 3 drops / gal. After 8 hours a 50% wc.
Temp 84F (higher temp is not recommended with formalin)

Use extra aeration.

Make sure formalin is not expired or white looking.

I dose with 37% formalin at the rate fo 1 ml per 10 gallons, 50 % water change after 24 hours and repeat dose. Do this again in a few weeks to get any that have hatched out again. Ken

Thanks Ken. I've got him in the hospital tank for an hour now and he's already breathing through both gills.

Well I put him back with the other fish this morning. His breathing is fine, gill's look fine and he immediately start eating. Thanks Ardan, Ken and Carol.
