Ok breeders...Question?????? When is the time to pull the screen covering the eggs??? After the fry become free swimming or just before...or before they become wigglers????????? I am sure every one has different ideas...I have a bunch of wigglers on the cone and I have the screen on the cone, they should become free swimming either today or tomorrow..the parents are fanning the wigglers ok and any that fall they spit back into the rest, they both have eaten eggs, wigglers, free swimmers before, but this time things are looking good,so far....so what is your suggestion as to when the screen can go?????

Mench,

If they are going to eat wigglers chances are they are going to eat the free swimmers. At least from what I have seen. When I use a screen for the eggs its to keep the parent from them until they turn into wigglers. This will stop them from eating the good eggs when trying to remove the bad ones. If I use a screen It's always pulled at 60-72 hrs

If your pair is tending to the ones that have fallen off I would say it safe to remove the screen.]

I agree with Mike.
When I see wigglers I feed the parents good then pull the screen.
If they haven't become attached to them by the time the eggs have become wigglers they probably won't.
I do leave the cone or pvc, what ever you are using as most times the pair will relocate the wigglers, some times just to the other side of the cone.
Good Luck

I might add, I very rarely screen eggs, unless it is a spawn I just have to have.
Yesterday a wild pair of curipera ate thier secound spawn, yep next time they will see the screen.
