I just bought a 125 gallon tank and ive read about the fishless cycling technique through this website. What I am wondering is where you can buy the ammonia to cycle the tanks with. Are they available and Local fish stores or do i have to order them somewhere.

It's cheap household ammonia - non sudsy, non scented. I bought mine at Walmart. Read the ingredients to make sure there are no additivies.

Usually the cheapest brand is the best because it's less likely to contain any additives. Make sure you avoid the lemon scented one and if you shake the bottle it should not foam in the slightest--it should look and act just like water. I use Publix brand (not sure if you have that grocery store where you are).

The bottle may not actually list ingredients, but if it says PURE AMMONIA in the title then you're probably safe.

YOu know Ryan and Carol! Im really surpised that no companies have 'caught' on the the fishless cycling method and started selling 'Aquarium safe' ammonia to sell the in the lfs for hundreds of dollars. I mean, everything else in the lfs you could find in hardware stores, grocery stores, building suppy stores, etc. Maybe a venture looking into! ::)

Hey Carol, Ron has the idea... let's go into business together and make some ammonia for tank-cycling.. we could call our product Ammo-Cycle... We'll use pictures of your discus on the label, because people always buy the products in LFS that have pictures of discus on the label (am I right?) :P ;D

Sigh, I'll be the first to admit it, I'm a sucker of advertising. :-\

Cheers,

Chi.

PS: Where can I get a bottle of Ammonia Cycle? ;)

LOL Ryan! No kidding about the discus picture! What a great idea! We already have incredible pics of discus, now all we need to do is find the cheapest place to buy ammonia and stick our own labels on it (is that legal or do we have to buy our own bottles. Maybe we could like put a disclaimer on the bottom stating that this is the Walmart brand ammonia purchased at the store nearest you). Then we charge $5 per ounce to wholesalers and $9/ounce to public!

Cool! Hey Al, can we sell thru SImply?? ;D We'll give you a cut! 8)

O, aquabid! I never even thought of that! E-bay, here I come! Hehe! I can see hundreds of discus tanks in my new house already! :D ;) ;D

You could save yourself alot of trouble and just take a leak in the tank.

"Dont worry honey, Im just checking out the plants!"
"What do you mean this is not the toilet???"
"Your kidding, you mean....I....I just.....No!!!!!"
"I could not hold it until then"

Now, now neo! Lets put it in a bottle and sell it instead! Now we just added the bacteria part! :o
