Resting the parents

Do any of you rest the breeding discus after they have been breeding for a period in time.
I know that it is natural for them to breed but I wonder whether the strain of breeding over long periods can make the fish sick.
If so, how do you do it?
Separate the fish?
Bring the temperature of the tank down?
Move one to another tank?

I had a pair of blue ss's breeding and after about 4-5 months of breeding every 12-15 days, they took a break for about a month then began breeding again
