Cobalts

Hi all,
Like to ask how many stress bars do cobalts have? My cobalts only have 5 stress bars... have anyone encountered any other strains with 5 stress bars?? ???

Hi TW,

Unfortunately you can't see the bars in the picture. Are you counting the eye bar and the bar through the caudal peduncle, too? Those are also counted in the bar total (if I'm wrong, someone please correct me). Most discus will have 9 bars, but there are also 14 bar snakes and such. My discus have 9 bars generally, but I do have a few with "split" bars making them appear to have 10, and also some with "joined" bars, making them appear to have less than 9.

Hi, I have seen fish with 6 or 7, several were fused into one thick bars making it appear they had less than 9, I consider it a cull like split bars. Ken

Uh Oh. My Cobalt has NO bars. Do I have something other than a Cobalt? Rats. Nice round fish, too.

ryan: yup i counted the stress bars across the eyes and the tail...
i got these cobalts from a turq and spotted snake cross...probably some throwbacks...
oso from tat cross i oso got some hybrids which are nearly solid blues wif some spots and invisible 14bars which do not appear even when they are stressed...see the pic below
