Just curious as to whether or not rain water makes good discus water or not.

It does if you are not downwind from a pollution source, like a big city, factory, etc. It is like distilled or RO water. (can be acidic, acid rain, if polutants are already broken down)

I live way out in the country not really down wind of any large cities. It should be ok if I run it through a carbon filter first right?
I would think it's contingent upon the season.
More rain = cleaner water
less rain = dirtier water
I'm just using the finish on my car as reference though...

Sometimes rain can travel great distances, ie acid rain has affected some lakes miles from any industry.

I agree with Ardan.
I'm having too big of a problem with the crap the county puts in my tap water to worry about what everyone else may put in the sky.
With RO units as cheap as they are I would not risk it...
