View Full Version : Hot Heaters

I just got my Won Pro Heat I Titaniums yesterday and they've been running for about 30 hours now. I just have one problem...they're heating my tanks too much. I have a 150w heater in a 29 set at 84 and the temp is 86.4 degrees. In the 125g I have two 300w heaters each set at 86 and the temp reads a staggering 93.4. These temps have held steady for 20 hours now. Anyone have an idea as to what is going on or what I can do to fix the problem?

Sounds like a calibration problem to me......I have some Ebos like that, and have not found a way to fix 'em. You could just set the dial lower though in order to get the temps you want.

Yea, but everyone else that has gotten these heaters says they're dead on. No one else have my experiences?

I don't own one so I can't be sure.....but isn't the temp control and sensor seperate on that unit....if so, maybe there not at the correct location in respect to the heating unit....

just my 1cent....

I'm yet to have any heater that was calibrated perfectly regardless of the brand, and I've gone through a bunch.

Hey Gang;

Beware, I have had two Via Aqua Titanium heaters (300W) fail in the last 2 weeks after only being in use for 3-4 months!! >:( >:( I guess these titanium heaters are no better than the less expensive Ebo's or other glass heaters.

Temperature in the tank can be influenced by the speed of the current and the amount of aeration around the thermostate. You can record a different temperature if you lie the heater horizontally and will obtain a higher temp with higher aeration through the heater on a fixed setting. HTH

I dont think there is any substitute for a big digital thermometer in an obvious place. "Set it and forget it " is best left to that chicken machine. ;D It's hit or miss when the numbers on a plastic houseing line up with the guts of a heater IME.

Anyone gone through the calibration procedure on these things? And if so, how successful was it? It says something about taking the temp control box apart if I remember correctly.

At least on my Via Aqua Heaters there is a way to calibrate them. UNPLUG THE HEATER Then remove the backing to the temperature control section. In side of this there is a small adjustment control. It has a slot in it for a screwdriver and an arrow with plus or minus. Turn the adjustment control whichever direction you need to go. Then plug heater in and recheck. May want to do in an empty tank to protect your fish.

I've heard of several other Via Aqua Titaniums going bad recently. Caution!!!

There is a similar method for the Pro Heat Titaniums. I'll try it out and report the results.
