Hi all,
After having ran this board for the last year... I have seen a lot of fish pics! :) What always amazes me is the slight variations that are found in all the strains out there. I had an idea for a series of threads here. I thought we could go strain by strain.. post your pics of that particular strain. It might interesting to see all the subtle differences.

We could do similar for many other strains as well.

Red turqs are always a safe starting point, so how about some Red turq pics everyone.

My idea so I guess I will start....

thanks,
al

Not sure if i should add this one as strictly speaking they are a cross( red turquoise X brown), but they are showing many features of what is classified as red turk imo, so here they are ;D

Rod

These are also red turk X brown from the same spawn as the fish above. they are around 4" and just starting to show good colors.

I'm curious to know what feature is use to classify a strain as a red turq?

Is there suppose to be some sort of redness to the overall body with blue striations?

Thanks for the input.

Cheerio,

Chi

PS: Nice fishes all.

Al, this is great it also might be a great idea to find out what everyone thinks makes a red Turk a red Turk. Here’s how I'd describe a red Turk and I'll also point some of the previous pics that I think are good examples.

IMO a red turk is to have smooth horizontal red lines on a blue background. The lines should be long and not broken up into spots. Nor do I think their should be vertical lines. The key point IMO is that the anal and dorsal fins should become more red the further away from the body. Now, IMO if the dorsal and anal fade to blue then they are blue turks. IMO good examples are the first three pics of rod’s, the first three pics from Sly, the pic by Bruce Duong, Brad NC, and John Nicholson. Now I’m not saying that the others aren’t red turks or nice fish (because they are all real nice) its just they IMO don’t fit the classic red turk profile.

So that’s my the way I look at it. But I’d like to hear differing points of view.

This is my favorite Red Turk from Mat P.
Still less then a year, but laying already ;D

PS. Yes, them are nice Green Algae spots on the tank, not the fish!

Bin,

SUPERB pair of red turqs. They look like they have a very light green, almost mint green, body color along with the red striations. Or, was it just the lighting?

Rick;

There are turquoise and red turquoise, no blue turquoise. Aside from this triviality, your assessment is good.

Here's one of mine which originated with Bing's Red Cobalts many cycles ago. There was a snakeskin cross in the grandparent generation of this fish.

Sorry to say I don't know the origin. I happened by my local lfs and they had a really nice batch (they claim from Thailand...who knows!). I suspect there is a local breeder around my area who really knows his/her stuff.
