Yes this is normal. They are just being Cichlids. If you only have two in the tank it probably will be worse than if you have several. Just make sure the little one is getting enough food and is not getting hurt. Good luck.

The thing I have noticed about discus aggression is that once they have a pecking order established, the dominant fish will still chase the others but once they show submission, the aggression stops.

Some other cichlids (and some discus, I have heard) will just keep it up until all weaker fish are dead.

Hi Henry
I agreee with John and Dale!!! I had that problem but the other way around. I had a cobalt runt that would pick on all the bigger fish!!! To this day if I get an aggressive discus I put in in the orgy tank with this cobalt within a few days the once aggressive discus is now very mellow!!! Now if only this cobalt would pick one male instead of playing the field things would be perfect!!

I have two fish who seem to be the ones wanting to be top dog , its quite comical the smallest around 2.5 is always standing his ground against the largest 3.0 no serious fights yet

I read somewhere that like animals, they know if one of them is sick (even if we can't see anything wrong) and will pick on them - like if several Discus in a tank constantly pick on another of similar size and they have lived with for months, is that telling me that Discus has something wrong or is this common ??? ???

Shari... Discus *are* animals ;D

And yes, that is very often the case, but often it isn't anything serious that's wrong with the fish.

Henry. how many are in the tank?
thats the question. if only two fish it will go on endlessly. and id put a divider. or he will not grow etc.
thats one reason they say to have a group of 6 or more to spread the aggression around.
oh..now i know where you got your fish. lol.
good choice.. saw some that were brought in with those ones...but at a different house.
