Dan,
Looks like a nasty infection! I've seen cichlids who come off badly when mouth-wrestling get that sort of injury.

Ouch that looks awfully painful.
Wish you best of luck in healing it.

do you know what the cause of the redness on the fish??. The reason I asked is I just got the Penang discus book and it seem I ran across something that was refering to that type of problem.. If your interested let me know and I will see if I can find it for you.

Fisheyes.
The infection was on a rather poor specimen I had a while ago. It was basically a cull that i chose not to dispose of initially. It was a nice blue colour (blue diamond). It was a runt too. It succumbed to the pucker face for no obvious reason and I chose to put it out of its misery. The rest of the fish in that tank were fine.
This a total guess, but i figure it was a bacterial infection. The redness might have been due to the inflamatory process associated with the infection. (BTW I do not use red colour enhacers except maybe the raw shrimp I use in my beefheart mix ;))
