Howdey - the best barrels are the ones food [ olives, etc] come in
they are food grade quality and very tough
usually 50 gallons.
try some food importers/ Italian stores
usually about $20.00

Yes , they do come with lids.
They are designed to be shipped overseas / Italy to america. etc
A pump / OR - instal a 1'' valve on the lower side
The material is easy to drill !

The discus are doing fine... still a few more months before I let them breed
they are still a little young, yet.

When you get the barrel/barrels [ one is never enough][lol]
- set them on rigid styrofaom [insulation] to prevent heat loss.

Remember, the barrels , full, may weigh ~450#.

When using a barrel as a water storage container, wouldn't you need to occasionally clean the inside (wipe it down like you would the inside of a tank)? How do you do this? I presently using trashcan bu want to move to a 55 gallon barrel or water softener water storage tank. Just not sure how I would clean the inside good.
Thanks,

Keith

well if some of you like me, can not find these 50's try wal-mart's 32g roughneck for $9.00.
for a pump i use a ViaAqua 2600. $37.00 from fostersmith.
i have to pump upto 25' an it works great. just move from storage tank to tank. ;D ;D

well. from expierence - just crawl inside and start wipeing. lol

A little elbow grease does do wonders.
