two of my discus are turning dark, both of them stop eating couple days ago. I dont know why but the like to hide right on the air stone. They seem to bend their bodies, flapping thier fins constanly. Do they have ick? I did 50% WC everyday now.

Pleas help me...they are dying soon.

Tank:125 gallon
temp: 87
Ph: 7.5

If there bellies are not swollen I would try adding NON-IODIZED SALT 3 tablespoons per 10 gal of water ( 29 gal aquarium 9 tablespoons NON-IODIZED SALT) and I stress NON- IODIZED. Raise temp to 90deg. Good luck :) Jim & Diane

Chinoz : I don't think they would have ich. At that temp ich would not survive. I agree with Jim increase the temp and add the salt. I just went through a similar experience last week in my wild tank and the same procedure. How does their slime coat look? Is it normal or is it dry and patchy?

Jim: their coat is pretty patchy...should i remove these two fishes before its infected all of my other fishes?

Where can i get these salt from guys? is it Epson salt or soemthign liek that?

Non iodized salt is just pure table salt. If you go to the supermarket or grocery store you should be able to find it. Iodized table salt will state on the label that iodine has been added. Iodized salt. If there is no indication of being iodized on the label, that is what you are looking for. Most markets have both.

Hi chinoz:
They don't look very good :-\

have you recently added any new fish or plants to your tank? Any other changes or additons to your tank?

How long have you had these discus? If a month or more with no new additions I would look at your water/filter/tank.

If new fish I would think parasite or disease.

yes i have added three new fish last week...now my third discus is dark

QT???? Chinoz, discus getting dark and sliming away is like humans getting fever nausia and vomiting.... natural response to something not right... bacteria/viral or parasitic invasion... just keep up the water changes.... their immune system will take over soon... reduce the feedings.... if you feel too jittery you can use furacin... it is mild and will prevent any secondary infections..... ;)

Others,
what is the purpose of adding salt? Just curious.....

salt is to reduce stress..i believe.

OK its official !, two of my CB is dead. my biggest discus is getting there soon. I have no clue what to do now. Should i just start a fresh new tank? 100% water change?

1. Calm down
2. Do a huge water change, wiping down the sides
3. Crank temperature up to 93F (Run out and buy extra heaters if necessary)
4. Add salt
5. Hope for the best
6. Buy a quarantine tank and never add new fish again without quarantine

Good luck, Willie

Sorry Chinox :'(
The new fish brought in a disease your old fish hadn't built up an immunty too. Are the new fish are swimming happily around the tank? There is not a lot you can do at this point. Follow Willie's advice and hope for the best.

Also chino if you have gravel on the tank bottom I'd get rid of it. Go bare bottom JMO :)

It's happened to many people don't be too hard on yourself. But no matter where you get them from. No matter how well known the breeder is you should always QT the new fish. :) good luck Jim & Diane :)

Chinoz : It is a very hard lesson to learn and everyday you can read about it on Simply. I lost 11 before I got the advice that I so badly needed. Hang in there.............we all have gone through it.

You have probably got a bacterial problem from the lack of Q.
IME salt ain;t gonna do it at this point. Most bac. problems are gramm-neg. & so are susceptable to either Tetracycline &/or nitrofurazone. Raising the temp just makes the bacteria propagate faster.
At this point it is also probably too late to do any good so the water changes are crucial.

sorry to hear about your difficulties.
