I had to show you guys and gals these few pics..... tell me what cha think ;) I only kept 1 from a group of 8 F2's... 5 went into the swimming pool and 2 were culled. This little guy has just started showing this bar when he gets aggressive towards the other tank mates.

Dat is cool!

I think it will stay, I've had heckel bars pop up outta nowhere too, always when the fish was about that size 2"-3.5", I wonder why ???

they usually stay, but I've never been able to fix it, by backrossing or other, enjoy

Hi Beth:
The pronounced 5th bar is neat.

Another quetion - off topic - I see you have various sizes (ages) in that tank. Have you done this before and do the small ones maintain their expected growth rate (not runt)?

beth, i have a few fish that do the same thing, one of my turks i've never noticed bars on, but now that she's tending young ones, she shows bars some when i'm disturbing her trying to clean the tank or take pics! i also have a cobalt that shows no signs of bars until stressed.

i really like the heckel bar it looks neat!

Hey Carol...

I don't generally have larger fish with the smaller guys. In this case it was more like an emergency move.

The tank in the pic with the assorted sizes is a 55gal that I was growing out a few BD's from Jack Taylor and a few of my F2's.... I had a tank in my bedroom with a pair and fs that Mom decided to start eating :yikes: (the double spawn) I had to move her in a hurry so that's where she went....
.... I also had a tank in my dining room with a pair and fs.... dad decided to start killing babies in there, so I had to do the same with him :flame:
then the 3rd adult moved was the male with the double spawn..... he started doing the same thing and ofcourse that's where he had to go too ;D the following day I had eggs in the 55gal on the lift tube :o

I guess I should get rid of a pair or get more tanks going.....

I only have one other empty tank up and running and it's going to be used for the Violet Reflections I'll be getting in from Danny :-\

so to answer your question in short....... I haven't tried to raise smalller guys with the bigger guys ;)
