It has been almost 4 months since I imported my first discus. Like many first time owners, I've thrown meds at them and stressed them numerous times. I originally received 24 discus, but sold 2 smaller discus to a LFS to make more growout room. Now I was down to 22.
Two of my tanks are doing fantastic, but one take still has stressed discus. I decided to treat with a general antibiotic. I'm in day 4 of a 5 day treatment, but found one of stressed discus on the floor today. I guess he jumped out during the night.
Very sad to lose my first discus. I now have 21 discus, and I hope to clear up the last tank's issues.
After talking with the breeder, I think the discus are between 7-8 months old. I am very impressed with my fish. They were so small when I got them.
On a positive note, last night I noticed my two largest Golden Pigeons have "paired" together and started shaking and cleaning my filter intake tube. They chase everyone away from that part of the tank, and "shimmy" at each other all day long. These are extremely high quality Goldens, with almost zero pepper. Very clean. I realize it will take more time, since they are so young, but it helps us cope with the recent loss.
