Please help me out.
I want to buy a fuliter for my 45gal tank with 6-8 discus.
Do you ppl have any good recommandations? which brand or model #?
Is Canister filter too powerful for Discus, and too complicate to clean?

go with a aqua clear 500

However 6 to 8 discus is to many for a fifty .
Are you prepared to do 50 % water changes once mabey twice daily .
I don't think so .
Not unless your retired and don't play golf

I also like the Aqua Clear Brand. You could use either the 300 or the 500 on that size tank. You want to buy an extra sponge for the inside and put a pre-filter sponge on the water intake tube. I would only put 5 three inch discus in a 45 gallon tank.

Hi Carol,
Where do I put my carbon and peat if I put an extra sponge for the inside?
I heard that peat is good for Discus by soft the water.

Forget the carbon and peat. You seriously don't need it unless you are removing meds (carbon) or wanting to soften water for breeding (peat).

Go with the aqualclear 300 on the 36 inch.

This size tank is good to grow out 5-6 discus, and a great size as a show tank for a pair, with a school of your favorite tetras!

I agree with James

Go with the AC 500.

It is not so much more expensive than the AC 300.

You can put double the bio media inside.
