I've been trying to figure out how to identify a Marlboro Red versus a Tangerine.
According to Mike Wells' website:
Marlboro Red - There are many versions of the “Marlboro Red”
discus. Some are solid red ..., while others have a yellow or
white face. This strain was created by crossing a wild
“Alenquer Red” discus with a solid orange “Pigeon Blood”
discus. This out crossing produces a “Pigeon Blood”
base-colored offspring with an intense red overlay.
Tangerine - This solid orange pigeon blood, is very clean,
has no black pigment or white circles.

Tangerine - Penang Pigeon crossing with selected orange
based pigeon. The offspring from this crossing,
especially those with orangey body coloration and few
body striations are selected out for further crossings.
I've been looking at pictures posted on SimplyDiscus and other websites of MR's and T's. With the exception of those that have a definite yellow or white face, at times there is not a noticable difference.
On Mike Wells' site, there is a noticable difference in the intensity of the red of the MR versus the orange of the T. But you could still mistake his Tangerine 1 and 4 with his Marlboro 4 and 8. (Or at least I could.)
Are the intensity of red vs. orange and the yellow face the primary distinquishable differences?
How do the rest of you distinguish between the two strains?????
I think at times I'm color blind between red and orange.
Mike - I really appreciate the lineage descriptions you provide of your strains on your website.
