PS Im taking drastic measures today - im taking all the gravel out of my main discus tank - only have a tiny bit anyway for the cories but someone advised me they should be ok - i have a nice big piece of FLAT rock about 12 inches long i can put in for them lay on. I only have 2 live plants - ones on a piece of driftwood and the other ones weighed down with plant anchors - i always scrub the bottom of the tank anyway but i have to push the gravel around to get to it - its hardly worth having it in there for the small amount i have anyway.

Hey Kerry, having a plane bottom on that tank wont hurt the cories, you will probably find that there barbels will grow longer, as some substrate material will actually wear them down :vanish:. There constant moving on a BB will flick all debri back into the water and the filter will pick it up a lot easier. Anubial species, as well as Bolbitus are excellent for putting on wood, rock, and ornament works. :thumbsup:

yes yippy. today it was 27 in the middle of our summer. and about 10 to15 at night . and everyone here is dying of heat exhaustion.
up north they have only 2 hours of dark right now...here its light till 10 pm. at night. in the winter dark at 4 pm and dark at 8 am. up north in the winter yes....between 12 pm and 2pm they have light. rest of the day is dark.

On the far right you can just spot a BB tank of young Discoids, and next to them - the cosy glow of a 150w metal halide plant display tank which I’m taking forever to set up. Biotypical, you need to help me.

The best thing about my humble home is that we tiled the entire downstairs… No matter where the Discus get added, there’s no spillage worries.

The rest of the kitchen area, please disregard.. It’s embarrassing.

Yes April, But this is extremely rare for our winters!!!!!! And you know how inaccurate weather reporters are. Actually. one a more serioys note, i read a post somewhere on here -someone was having trouble keeping their water at the right because it was so hot over there. And yes the weather is crazy ,We just add our shortest day and have only just had our first real cold snap , still wearing shorts and a shirt though .Not bad considering its only a two and ahalf hour drive to the closest ski field. Not many places in the world were you can have a surf and a snowboard on the same day. 8)
Although its seems we have the worst and least amount of discus veriety here than anywhere else in the world. Hmmm Oz doesn't sound too bad at all considering . Naaa bugger that !! (lol) :P

OUCH! Thats not quite true, roads keep going out to the oilsands plants... And in the winter we can drive all the way up to Fort Chippewyan (why one would want to is another matter... :D) I'm told if you really wanted to you could drive all the way to fort smith.

We have the original alberta desert up here :) (Not that one developing south of calgary) Sand dunes, cacti and the whole works!

The real reason to live up here; I probably make more $ as a blue collar under-educated schmuck than most 'suits' do in calgary (pretty sad when McDonalds up here starts at >10$/hr).

I think he lives on Endine road in toronto? think a snowplow truck ran him over about the same time simply started up? Jimmy....your a doctor.cant you revive him?
