I just wipe the bottom of the tank down with a cloth that i use ONLY for my tanks. Be sure to rinse the cloth between each use.
w/c = water changes

Thank you, Luke!!!
That is very helpful. How about the discharge from the fish? How you get rid of them?

Hiya,
usually when i do a w/c i use the suction from the drainage tube to suck up all the unwanted matter from the bottom of the tank.
its the easiest way. :)

I change 25-30% everyday
OR
50% every 2nd day
Have a GOOD look around and pick up ideas from everyone here. Ask plenty of questions, people are more than willing to help.

Cheers

Thanks Luke. How can you change your water everyday? What method that you use? Because I change mine once a week. I have to fill up a 44 gallons trash can for age water and adjust pH and temperature. This takes me about at least 2 days due to the fact that temperature takes 2 days to reach to the right mark.

Oh, I am sorry if I put this in a wrong topic. I think it should not be a new topic at all. Sorry everyone. I was new when I make up this topic. But Luke has been very helpful. Many thanks, Luke.

Best Regard,
Huy

I fill my storage barrel with a mix of hot and cold water from the tap. I have a heater and a pump in my storage barrel. this keeps the water at 84 degrees and agitates the water to off gas CO2 which allows the pH to stabilize.

p.s. I'm going to move this thread to the beginner section so it will help others new to discus.

What is the ph of your tap water untreated. In most cases you don't even have to adjust the ph. If you look at the posts on (water works) you'll find that most people stay with the ph of their tap water. Discus can handle ph as high as 8. All you really have to make sure is that the ph does not fluctuate too much.

Huy, buy a 'python' to help facilitate the water changes & suck up the fish poop. You can find it online or in the local fish store (LFS).

A Python worked great for me in the beginning, but after a few months, the hose got a few 'soft spots' in it and that was it for siphoning. I can still use it to fill tanks, but I have to follow the hose around and make sure I straighten out the 'soft spots'. When I siphon, the soft spots collapse and no water gets through.

I was thinking about replacing the hose part with a sturdier one from Home Depot... Anyone know the size of the hose?

Thanks Pete. Well, I don't know how the say this. But I asked it because I can not believe that ppl actually syphoning everyday. I was more concern about the easiest and quickest way beside syphoning everyday. Well, I am using water pump to do my w/c twice a week. I hope that's ok. Anyway, thanks all for advices.

The easiest way to keep your tank bottom clean is a bare bottomed tank. It is much easier to siphon out the bottom of the tank without any gravel. Also much quicker.

Good Luck,
