Starter Kit! (Water Works!)

For a starter who doesn’t understand ph or NO2, NO3, KH, etc., what u expert recommend to do to meet the water parameter required by Discus?

In simple baby step, can u guys help???

Please note in India (Bombay) we don’t get so highly equipped testing kit nor we have access to chemicals esp. in place where I leave… if we try to import its 5-6 times more then its cost... please tell me things which r easily available (in house) or can be brought from chemist (Drug Shop!)
