I have three pairs currently set up with a wild male and domestic female ...
W Green Male x Red Diamond Female, Wild Green (RSG) Male x Leopard Female, Wild Alenquer/Brown Male x San Merah. The WGxRD have spawned for the second time sveral days ago. I have yet to get a spawn from the WGxLeopard and the WAxSan Merah, although the females in both pairs have spawned before. The WGxLeopard have been together for almost 8 months ... the WAxSM for 1 month.

Any tips to promote spawning?

Jeff

raise the heat to 90f and feed very lightly fow 2 weeks and very minimal w/c's

then after 2 weeks drop temp to 81-83 start doing massive cool w/c's preferably aged with peat, and feed tons of food preferably live.

AH, simulating change for dry season to wet season.

Hey Jason,
Why would you feed lightly for the period of high temp. rather than taking advantage of their higher metabolism(caused by the high temp) to "fatten them up" for spawning???
I'm definitely not disputing what you're saying-I'd just like you to elaborate if you could please...
thanks, david

Hi David,

not a problem, this is why we are here dispute, debate, teach and learn :)

Just about every discus spawning trick comes from mother nature...............Or CARY ;)

what the high heat is replicating is the sun beating down on the river and not much rain to cool it off(dry season), the amazon is shrinking in size and creatures are dying off, there's not much food around for a whole lotta reasons.

so the fish is thinking .

"is this ever crappy, its hot! no friggin' food anywhere, and that caiman has been on my *** all day! if I spawn now I'll waste my time and enerqy, and what the hell will my kids eat?"""

in comes the cool rain, there is more food around everything is just boomin'

so now the fish is thinking .

"damn! food all over da place, the water is nice and fresh, hey wait a minute! I better bang-off a couple kids before things get $hitty again! cause my whole goal in life is to pass on my genes to my kids"

and thats the dealeeeeo with that trick.

thanks for the info Jason...I've got some fish right now with the heat up-I'm gonna cut back a little bit on their food for a week or so, and try it exactly as you said(lower the temp and then strap on the feedbag)

I didn't know Discus spoke "Ghetto". That's interesting...more like King of the Aquarium Hood.
