ATTENTION DISCUS LOVERS! The Discus is the "mascot" or "logo" of the Southwestern Michigan Aquarium Society. The Southwestern Michigan Aquarium Society would like to invite you to participate in its Silver Anniversary "Age of Aquariums" Tropical Fish Show and Auction. It will be held on October 10, 11, and 12 at the Ken Krum Recreational Center in Schoolcraft, MI (south of Kalamazoo). The site is open for set up on Friday after 12:00 noon until 10:00 p.m. Site is open on Saturday for the show at 8:00 with the show beginning at noon. A HUGE auction will be held on Sunday with doors opening at 9:00. The auction will begin at 11:00 a.m. Raffles will be held all three days for tank set ups. Five nationally recognized speakers will talk on Saturday. Cary Strong will discuss "What do you want to know about Discus?" Several vendors will also be on site. A full show/auction booklet with complete details can be downloaded from the SWMAS web site....http://swmas.tripod.com. There are cash prizes in the individual classes and trophies for group awards. BEST OF SHOW prize is an original framed drawing by award winning artist Pat Pritchard of DISCUS!! Pat is nationally recognized for her drawings of aquarium fish and her work has been published in national aquarium magazines as well. We would love to see a huge Discus class as they are show stoppers....and it would be nice to see a huge Discus turnout at the show. As the show has been heavily advertised thoughout the midwest as well as in national publications, we are expecting a large turnout. The show is sanctioned by ACA and FAAS. Please help make our Silver Anniversary Show our best ever! Bring your fish to show...bring your fish to the auction! Hope to see you at the show!

Back on 10/23, you posted on Simply, a question in regard to the fish statues at the SWMAS Show in Kalamazoo. The guy in shorts is named Mark and he is a co-owner of MVPets in Kalamazoo. Either Mark or his partner, Steve, may be able to help you get a lead on the statues. The store number is 269.492.7387.

Hello! This is Casey from the Southwestern Michigan Aquarium Society. Thanks Cary for speaking and judging and ESPECIALLY for these photos of the show! I was co-chair of the show and it felt like we were on a runaway train! At any rate, the vendor that did the discus carvings is Del Calhoun. He can be reached at plasterpisces@aol.com. He does excellent work. Just to let you know next year's show is planned for October 8-10. Put it on your calendars now and be prepared to show! We had some nice fish this year and will be expanding the Cichlid classes. I'll keep you posted on show updates. We'd like to see more of you showing next year. If you have any questions about the show, rules, costs, etc., feel free to contact me. Once again...thanks Cary for all of your help...and by the way...we shipped a few people to you that were looking for those round flat fish!
Casey from SWMAS
P.S. Hi RA Wes...nice to hear from you!
