I would like to thank a you all who helped me gain knowledge on keeping discus. Those from whose post I have read and from those who have replied to my posts. I particularly like to thank Carol for her advice when I posted "Introducing new fish" in the general discus discussion.
I was having a problem with a new male that I had introduced with a female. I had just the male and female in the tank but the new male would always beat up the female until I divided the two. So, as a plea for help I posted 'introducing new fish'. Luckly Carol had excellent advice which was add a bunch of other discus in the tank. I guess it gave the new male a chance to chase other fish other than the female. Well, it worked! :)
The male no longer chased the female and the female started to look a lot better. After about a week, I took out the other fish and left the pair together. There was no fighting and the next day I did a 50% water change and added in a breeding tube. Soon after, the female started to investigate the tube and the next day the female was cleaning the tube.
Boy, was I excited! :o
HOwever, the male didn't participate but I thought he might later on. So, the next day the female started laying eggs but the male just gobbled them up. Row after row. Then, he finally stopped after eating ~100-200 eggs and let her finish laying what seemed to be ~30 eggs.
I thought that the remaining eggs would never survive since the male was not interested in fertilizing the eggs, therefore I didn't expect anything to at least hatch.
Well, after the second or third day, I noticed that the few eggs were still there but there were also a few dark eggs. As I took a closer look, I saw about 5 little wrigglers! Boy was I happy! I was jumping around like a little boy with a new toy! Although this first spawn may not survive, I now know that both are a pair and that it can only get better....I hope. Anyways, I was so excited that I thought I would share it with you all. thanks again everyone!
I'll post a few pics also. cheers
