Hi everyone,

I got my first discus (3 of them) last 4 months ago. They were 1 1/2" in lenght (from the tip of the mouth to the tip of the tail fin). Now after 4 months have past they are around 3" to 3 1/4" in lenght. Are they growing normally or are they runts? It seem to me that they are growing slow, are'nt they?

I've heard so many times about runts or stunted discus here but have not seen one yet. Can anyone post here a picture of a runts or a stunted discus? so that we can have a clearer idea of how they look.

It is very important for a beginner to know the difference between the normal and runts when buying discus from a source like LFS so that we're not going to waste time and money raising them.

Many thanks

1/2 inch per month is OK growth. Some color varieties grow slower than others and withing the same brood discus will grow at different rates. IF they stop growing and stay the size they are now they will be considered stunted or runted.
