Hi everyone!, some of you may have read my previous post about my present water parameters
http://forum.simplydiscus.com//index.php?board=5;action=display;threadid=13555

To grow out my fry would it be better to run this water through my household water softner then an R/O unit, and then add back some trace elements?. Also I have read various opinions on using rainwater for water changes. Some say no!, due to acid rain etc. Would'nt it be okay to use after running it through an R/o unit?, or is it just not worth the trouble?. I hope some of you "water techies" out there can give me some feedback on this, as the title says I'd like to do it right the first time.

Thanks.......Peter

I would not recommend using softened water for your fish. Water softeners replace the hard minerals with salt or potassium.

I would either use re-constituted RO water or splice into your cold water line before the softener and use regular tap water for your grow-outs.

Oops, I just read your water statement. You may want to use reconstituted RO...
