My 72 gal. planted tank has 6 discus plus some tetras and corys . I'm using half tap water ( 190 ppm ) and half distilled water . The LFS told me I need to add Kent "Discus Essential Trace Minerals " because the water is 50% distilled . I've been doing this , but wonder if it's really necessary . I change 15% of the water daily and 40% weekly , so it's been costing me lots of $ . What do you think ?

I think you can skip the kent discus essential. Why are you using distilled water? My tap is 276 ppm or GH12, pH is 7.8. Discus are swimming happily in it as we speak.

:bounce: Hey Mark, I'm with Carol. Wish my well water was that good. I'm using straight r/o & reconstituting with minerals according to Joe's recipe (Enchanted Discus). Bring my ppms to 325-350ppms for young'uns. Couldn't afford the OTC minerals at that rate; but you should be able to use that great water straight. JMO, Dottie ;D
