Hello everyone,
This Frequently Asked Questions post is to help you better understand the Member Map feature on the board. This feature was added to help members better locate one another. It is useful when planning get-togethers, trips, and finding local fellow discus enthusiasts.
To Access the Member Map:
You can view and add to the Member Map by logging into your account and clicking on the Member Map icon at the top (http://forum.simplydiscus.com//YaBBImages/membermap.gif).
Once you have made it here, you click the Place My Pin link at the top of the map. This will bring up a new screen.
Filling Out Your Location and Adding Your Country's Flag:
- Select your continent/country from the Map pull-down menu.
- Enter the name of your city in the City text box.
- Select your region from the Region pull-down menu (if appropriate). The regions are divided by country.
- Select your country from the Country pull-down menu. Your country's flag should appear below.
The information you have filled out here does not automatically place your pin for you. It simply fills out your location in your profile and adds a flag to your posts. In order to actually place yourself as a pin on the map, you will have to do it manually.
To Place Your Pin:
Move your mouse over the map and a cross-hair should show up (it looks like a cross, +). Center this in the approximate area you are located in and click the mouse button. You will see a pin is placed. If you are satisfied where you placed the pin, click Save Pin. If not, you may continue to click the map until you have the pin where you want it. Click Save Pin to finish.
To Remove Your Pin:
In the event that you'd like to delete your pin, you may follow the same instructions as stated above for placing a pin, but instead click the Remove Pin button. This will not remove your flag or your city/country information from your posts or profile.
An Explanation of the Pins:
You will notice different colors of pins on the map. Blue pins are for male members, red pins are for female members. Green pins indicate that the individual did not specify a gender in their profile. If your pin is green, you may click the Profile icon at the top of the forum, to the right of the Member Map icon (http://forum.simplydiscus.com//YaBBImages/profile.gif), and specify a gender in your profile.
If you click on a users' name at the bottom of the map, their pin will turn white to help you better locate that member. It can be a little tough to see, though, when there are many pins concentrated into one area.
