Hi peeps ... whats up ?
I want to know what you guys think about Blood worms for feeding discus ...
Plus there is something I want to ask ... I wnat to know the rate of growth of discus fish ... if you do water change and good food ... then should they grow monthly or just in a period of time they start growing fast ...
With thanks.
Shahab.

Hi,

I think frozen bloodworms are fine for discus. Look for a bright red type, dark colored bloodworms have been defrosted and refrozen which spoils them for use with discus.

Discus growth rate tends to be continuous imo if they fed well and w/c often.

I agreed with Rod. Frozen bloodworms are a great addition to your discus diet. I use the Hikira brand.

And they do show a continous growth rate, with it slowing down once they reach adulthood.

By canned do you mean freeze dried? My discus usually don't like freeze dried foods.

my discus love blood worms ..... well for the growing rate it's a hard question ...... I have 2guys from the same brood (brothers) with other discus offcourse all in the same tank (same food, same water etc....) one of the brothers is double in size than his other brother (I got them the same size 3months ago)
so not so sure ::)

i got my leopard turquoise discus in june and tony peng (sunrise tropical) told me he fed them bloodworms so that's what i've been feeding them almost exclusively. also changed from beefheart to bloodworms for my other discus also. i use hikari frozen. i get them at about $6.50/16oz. at fosters and smith. about 1/3 off local pet shop . i know it's best to do business with a local pet shop buy my lfs is suspect of having refrozen bloodworms so i don't buy from them.
i was having trouble with cloudy water when feeding beefheart but no such problem with bloodworms. tony told me he had problems of cloudy water also when using beefheart.
growth is just fine feeding bloodworms. -guy from long island

I also feed frozen bloodworms (Hikari being the cleanest brand and most preffered brand by my fish!). I feed frozen bloodworms to all my fish every day, never had a problem. My fish grow and breed like mad, and the Hikari brand does not cloud the water like some of the others do.

Second best food for discus after CBW. Fish can grow healthy and strong. The only draw back is the cost could be costly if you buy them from the store. There are at least 150% mark up in the store. If a few local hobbyist can share an order from a wholesaler. It will be more economical. I share 40 blocks with other breeders. Cost is under $2.00 per 100gm.
