Im confused ??? lol - Im coming from Oz and we're almost a day ahead. But it would be nice to meet a few of you a couple of days beforehand so im not walking into a room full of strangers!!! Maybe you guys could email me some pics of youselves so I can identify you!!! Or I could wear a "Crocodile Hunter" outfit so you know its me ???
I havent booked the flight yet, its peak season at the moment so the travel agent said to wait until mid-january as thats when all the specials come out. I know from a couple of quotes I got just for interest, that most flights have me going from Oz to LA to San francisco, to Denver. Maybe theres some friendly simplydiscus people in LA that I could hook up with before Denver????
Theres a few cheaper flights but some stop over in Hong Kong for a day -which is ok as we have friends that live there - but due to work etc I can really only spare 10 days max, and 2 days will be travelling time i guess, so id rather go straight to LA and Denver. But theres still plenty of time, I have till after new year to work out which day to arrive.
Kerry :)

To change the subject a little, I was wondering if discus will be brought in and sold during the convention? If so will it be adults only or will there be a range of 2.5" to adults? Also, do the prices seem to be higher than you would get if you ordered from their site?

I will be there a few days early. Turns out it the same time as my wifes family reunion in Denver! How much better could it be? ;D Well, I 'spose I could hit the lottery for a few G's to fund the whole thing eh? Still is great timing though.

If you are going to ACA, do you plan on showing fish?
Good question Lynn. How many plan on taking discus?

Nearly everyone who purchased Discus at the last ACA ended up with sick fish at home.....
MAKE SURE YOU QUARANTINE ANY NEW PURCHASES. Fish shows are a perfect place to aquire new & interesting problems for your discus.
DON'T FORGET!!!

Yep like Dave said Quarantine your fish.
Consider this, All of our tanks have their own "bugs," they are the disease our fish have survived and have overcome. Does that mean the "Bugs" no longer exists? Not at all, some bacteria are likely still present in out water and when fish that haven't been exposed to the "bugs" present in our tanks, they can become sick. On the flip side the new fish will bring the "bugs" from the breeder these may be new for your fish so it’s important for your fish also to be sure to quarantine the new arrivals.
Now for the worst case scenario or the fish show where a sample of bugs from a 100 different tanks are put together into a soup of new bugs that fish may become exposed to. I'd guess it would be like licking the fixtures in a subway bathroom it's likely there’s something new that you haven’t had yet to make you sick.
So I’m sure the fish brought to the show were in good health when they arrived. But the hundred different samples of bugs from all the different tanks resulted in a ‘plague’ of nastiest that a lot of fish hadn’t been exposed to.

I will bring fish to show and sell, To my knowlege no one got any "bugs" from me, but I rented tanks downstairs away from the other discus so no mixing of water or equipment occured and did not bring anything home on the 8 discus I showed. I watched my nets and made sure no one"borrowed" them and left me any unseen nasties. :) Ken

Well Ken,
That’s the problem, we just don't know if their is something that our fish had been infected with in the past that may cause problems with another fish. A few years ago I gave some fish to someone that always had healthy fish, the fish I gave were healthy and....bingo the fish I gave him got sick. I can't say his tanks were dirty of that he had sick fish because he didn't. I know my fish were healthy and hadn't been sick for years before I gave them to him. But something was lurking in his water that my fish hadn't been exposed to. I wasn’t his fault and it wasn’t my fault, that’s why we must quarantine all fish.
