Oliver has sent me a couple of shipments by plane. I live in Toronto, he lives in Montreal so he puts the fish on the flight, and one hour later they are in Toronto.
I went to pick up my fish today at Air Canada Cargo, kind of an awkward drive thru the back door of the airport, but worth while when you know discus and stingrays are waiting for you.
I paid for the shipment, about $100 for a 17kg box. The guy gives me a piece of paper and tells me to go to the other counter in the next room. So I go there, and its a massive warehouse and in the center of this holding area is a walk in cooler.
So i give the guy the paper and he says, "I will be right back, your shipment is in the COOLER"...to make a long story short, and to edit the swear words and aggressive behavior on my part, the guy brings me the styrofoam box and says, "we thought it went in the cooler, because it said Fish, and it was in this styrofoam box, but then we didnt put it in when we noticed the label LIVE TROPICAL FISH"....I COULD HAVE DIED...AND I STILL DONT TRUST THAT MY FISH WERE NOT IN THE COOLER, UNTIL SOMEONE NOTICED...
Anyways, I ordered two of the first curipera that landed in north america for the new season, and a beautiful male Motoro stingray...they are all doing just fine...will post pictures...
Just thought I would share my story with you...those of you who think you are making idiot proof arrangements like myself, may be surprised just like I was today.... :o
