First Time Buying Discus

This will be my first time buying discus. Is there any one discus eaiser to start out with then others. I am not going to start out with alot, just enough to fill one tank. What would be suggested for someone first buying discus?

I am in Phoenix, Az. Does it matter how far away the fish are shipped from, like if they are shipped from farther away is there a greater chance of them dying?
