I was just reading another post that indicated there are diseases people can catch from Discus (and I guess other fish). If I'm not eating my Discus, what other diseases might I catch ???

I'd imagine if you've got some sick discus and a dirty tank and you get a mouthful of water syphoning it out you could catch tapeworm...

Tuberculosis is one. Tapeworms need an intermediate host.

Hi,
Hand washing is one of the best protections against contracting anything from fish or other animals or even people.

This is the biggest thing people (incl visitors, nurses and doctors) can do in a hospital setting and the same thing applies here.

If we work in a fish tank where there is bacteria (all tanks have some, diseased tanks have outbreaks) we must be careful with any cuts or sores on our hands and arms as this is a place where bacteria could enter.

Also some imported fish or fish in some countries may contain cholera which can be transmitted to humans.

Know your source of getting fish. Use good sense with handling fish.
