Salt shouldn't be in the tank all the time- it should be used to treat illness and reduce stress. Plants don't like high concentrations of salt.

Thanks for the link. Should I use salt when entering my new fish into my aquarium?? Will there be significant damage to my plants?

I have never used salt for the purpose of introducing new fish. It certainly wouldn't hurt though. I do however recommend quaranteening any new arrival for a couple of weeks. After that period they should be adapted to your water conditions.
Not knowing your setup or the amount of fish you have we generally quaranteen for 6 weeks. I understand that this may not be feasible for everyone but that is what I would recommend.
