I have a newly set up 40g tank. I want to get a rainbow shark as my bottom feeder. I know they are semi agressive and want to get one along with 3 discus. Will it annoy my discus? I am planning to set up a cave for it. Please reply soon!

Rainbows sharks are aggressive when they are full grown- even with other peaceful fish including Discus. I have seen one chase my Discus around the tank. He is now living in my nephew's community tank, who thinks it's pretty "cool" to have a shark.

What about red tailed sharks?

redtail sharks are even more aggressive IMHO. Siamese (not Chinese) algea eaters are usually okay, as are clown loaches, kuhli loaches, and some cory cats - they work for me, your mileage may vary.

Are Ottos good bottom feeders as well as algae eaters?

I use ottos for algea (they do a good job) and clown loaches as bottom feeders (great job and look real nice IMO). The clown loaches like to swim near the discus, but do not seem to bother them.

Clown loaches get too big. I'm wondering, what's a good loach that doesn't get too big?

Just use cory cats as bottom sifters...
