How much do you pay for your discus?


My friend and I bought 6 tangerine dream discus (3 inches) from a known breeder for $100.00....Was it a good deal?


I saw 2-inch discus sold for $ 50 at LPS....yuck..

I just paid $40 a piece for 2 2" Royals from the LFS. "Boxing Day Sale" @ 15% off.

The most I paid was $79 from the LFS.

Fish Addict,

Sort of depends on what you want and the source that you get them from. Some people will pay $250.00 for one fish while others won't spend over $10.00. I believe you get what you pay for. If you get them from the majority of the good breeders here, you can get some real nice fish, that are some high quality fish for $15.00-$40.00 each.

I think you got a great deal as long as they are healthy.

I've spent close to 600 dollars for the 8 discus currently in my tank. I'd say you got a great deal...they're expensive fish, but paying the extra 20 bucks to a reputable dealer is well worth the results you'll get.

i paid £100 for eight fish 2x2" and 6x4", i think thats about $150..

May have been a good deal. May have been a GREAT deal.
Doesn't sound in any way, shape or form like a bad deal though.

pictures of my dis...i dint' have a digital cam. so I used my webcam...yes..they are blurry......

I just had my discus for a week...they are coloful....I wish i had a digital cam. so i can get their true color.

5 discus for $ 30.00... :o that's a very very good deal....i can't belive it...I should give that guy ( a breeder) a buzz, asking for refund...jk... ;D That guy has about 80 discus for sale.......when i saw his tanks ... I was like ::) :o

since i know that breeder, I won't buy discus from LFS...most/all LFS have only 2 or 3 discus in stores...some has none....



if we buy discus from breeders we get better quality fish, better selection (so many fish)...and better $$.... 8)

There are lot of names for the same/different fish. Depends who you get them from. I would call yours Clean Sunrise PB's

No, a pure PB and a pure turk will produce all PB.
IF the PB appearing parent is actually a cross and is bred to a turk then they will have PB and turk fry.

I usually pay around £15-£20.A lot more expensive for unusual varietys if you are lucky enough to find any in stock.

Carol, I don't realy care what people want to call their fish . My point was the name game. I too used to think the Orange PB as "Tangerine" till I got this poster "bedeverlag" Discus a lot of German fish on it. Shows some like the two I have as T-Dreams and others as PB's
Just go to Aquabid and see the same fish with 3 names.

This is another reason why there needs to be a standard in naming strains. Surely there can be a set of guidelines that breeds can establish and agree on so enthusiasts are not confused.
