I once read as a rule of thumb that you should allow one gallon of water per one inch of fish.
Is this same rule of thumb true with Discus? I have a 100 gallon tank. The fish seem happy and healthy.
Thank you.

Ten gallons per adult discus in the rule.

Ten gallons per adult discus in the rule.

Thank you for your reply. Follow-up question, is adult discus defined by age or size. If age how old? if size how big?
Thank you

When we are talking about stocking levels I mean size. Lets say average adults range between 5 - 7 inches

how many do you have? and bare bottom or other species??
also depends on your water changes and experience. more experienced people can push the envelope a bit..
but for beginner best to stick to 10 for your 100 gallon. less problems . you could grow out more small ones.. then choose the best ones to keep.
a group of 10 is good. or 12 juveniles.
