Hi,

I made a small movie and got some pictures from my discus. It didn't come out very nice because of the furn-2 in the water but it might give you an idea.

Note de white stuff that started to hung from the fishes after I started using furan-2.
One guy is really sick. The 3 young ones are fine now.
I'm waiting for the water in the 30g hospital to mature a bit more so I can move the big guys there... perhaps tomorrow I will do so.
I had some "can-be-difficult" fishes before but discus are far the most difficult challenges. It is nice but if some stars to go wrong...ouch.

Treatment history:

- It all started with the white feaces.
- 2/10 sea salt was added.
- I found close home a medicine with metro to start a treatment right-the-way while I was trying to go after pure metro. This medicine also had prazi. As soon as I started using the medicine, they started breading heavly and one guy became quite sick.
- Metro treatment was started, 250ml/10g. 2 wilds looked better, 1 still looking weak. 3 young snakeskin much better.
- At the end of the treatment, I noticed in the sick wild: popeye, white patches in this body, mouth fungus.
- finished metro treatment. How ever was eating or at least picking on food got 100% fished from the white feaces.
- added furan-2 1 caps/10g.
- after 1/2 hour of added furan-2, the patches started to come out of the fishes body and started to float in the aquarium... they looked like water from a cold nose ( ::) ).
- 24 hours from the furan-2 and now I see a white mucus coming out of the other 2 wilds... the 3 of them are breading heavily now. 2 are not too sick, 1 is..which is alwyas the same one.

Does anybody can come up with any miracle answer by seeing the pictures and the movie or such I such keep on going using furan-2 for now?

Btw, the young guy that goes after the other 2 young ones have normal eyes all the time but the other 2 ones have black eyes most of the time...unless they are chasing each other.

It this normal?

Wow Paniza :(

Really interesting video- I've never had a fish have anything like that, (knocking furiously on wood) but it almost looks like they're losing their slime coat. You should get some really good responses from the Discus Brainiacs out here - I swear that they've probably seen every Discus disease known at one time or another.

I would just be really careful about mixing treatments if I were you-make sure you get your water changed out too!
I'll hope for the best & hope the Good Guys ride in soon & give you some better help than I can!

Yes, it looks like they are shedding their slime coat.

I'm not really clear on what all meds you've had in the tank and how the fish responded. Do you want to do a timeline like . . .
Jan 9: six discus in 55 gallon not eating added 250 mg metro per 10 gallons, temp 92 degrees
Jan 10: redosed metro after 50% water change . . .

Thanks for your kind words. ;D

All righty, I will rebuild the timelines better today.

The shedding started about 1 hour after I added Furan-2... whatever it was white on their body is shedding now... or at least that is what it looks like. Apparently they are better today. I will do a 25%WC and will add 3rd dosage of furan-2.

Furan 2 should not be making them shed their slime coat . . .

I need to rebuild the timeline.

Ok... crazy idea here... desperate measure...

The sick guy looks like is fixed from most sickness but... he has right now all bars in a very strong black. It sounds to me like the alarm "I'm ready to die".

I don't know what to do anymore because he/she is not eating for may be 2 weeks now.

Here comes the crazy idea...
Has anybody tried to force a bit of food/water with a siringe from the fish's mouth? :-\

I made beef heart with metro, garlic and vitamins the fishes that ate are doing great thus I'm suspecting that the 5 days treatment with metro in the water didn't work very well.

Everytime I add furan-2 in the water a solid white poop stays hanging from him for few hours thus, I'm suspecting that they still have some parasite or whatever in their stomach.

???

Yes, some on here have tube fed medication.

I doubt force feeding is going to help your discus that is stressed and shedding it's slime coat. Discus take months to starve to death.

Your discus is sick with something . . . or maybe is reacting to meds in the tank - (I don't remember what all you've added) . . . .or maybe something in the water.

Is your filter still alive? Have you tested for ammonia? Furan 2 will kill your filter if you are not careful.

All righty, as expected today Mr. really sick was at the bottom... but breathing so I injected 4 ml of food and water.

I don't have high hopes for this one but let's see what happens.

Carol, I tested amonia and nitrite(0) last night(0.3).

Thanks

updates.

I moved it to the 29g hospital with salt.

He/she is now standing and swimming about 70% of the time since about 11AM.

Few minutes after the food with the siringe, it had white, then red, then white again feaces.

A yellow poop is coming out of him... I was wondering what that was when I realized that is about the same color of the Furan-2 from the water that he was.

If he/she makes it, I will have to name Mr. or Ms. Miracle.

The sick guy has died between 3 and 4 PM.

One more bites the dust... of the learning curve.

Paniza,

Sorry to hear about your loss!
Keeping discus can be challenging sometimes, but more than worth the effort when it all comes together as it should.

Hang in there bud!
