Does anyone know an online site that sells natural slate? I want to use some as a decoration and i don't want to buy tiles.

I don't know any online but you might want to try one of your local Landscaping companies.

I have read that natural slate should be avoided because it contains oil that can contaminate your tank.

I would go to your LFS or a gaden store.
When you say tiled slate is it slate that is like a square shape? If so you could always break it with like a hammer or something and get other chunks.

Mr. Dude:

I'm no Geologist but as I understand it, slate is made from similar processes that make petroleum in nature. That is, heat, pressure, and fossilized remnents of ancient plants. Hence, the slate actually contains a small amount of oil and is unsuitable for aquariums.
