Okay, so I am sure that my topic has been discussed on another thread at some point. So hopefully someone can direct me to it, or answer my question. Thanks in advance.

I will be picking up 5 leopard snakeskins from a local breeder (very nice looking fish). Now his tanks are at a pH of 6.5 and mine are at pH 7.5. The pH of my water is how it comes out of the tap and I would prefer to not have to put any additives in the water to lower pH(makes future water changes that much easier), therefore I would like to introduce my new discus to my tank as it is. What is the procedure for slowly introducing them to water of higher pH?? (all other parameters are the same). Thanks.

I'm assuming the tank is currently empty. I'd go ahead and lower the ph of your tank to 6.5. Then perform two 10% waterchanges a day with your aged tap water to gradually bring it up to match your water.

Or you can put the discus in a bucket and slowly drip water into it til the PH adjust to your tap.

Healthy discus are pretty resilent. You should see of some the stuff I put mine through.

Discus really are not heavily affected by an upward change of pH. It is a constant pH fluctuation and/or drop in pH that hurts. If you are able to keep you pH at 7.5 consitently then all you need to do is put them in your tank. I know that there are those who will gasp at my suggestion but this is my experience and as a suggestion from Cary to me. None of my fish have suffered from the change upward. JMO IME

I'd just reach in the bag, grasp discus with both hands and plop in tank.

If it will make you feel better you can put the bags in a couple of buckets (upright) cut off the tops, pour a cup of your tank water in each bag, wait 15 minutes then reach in bag, grasp discus with both hands, . . . .

I agree with Carol..grab & plop in. I always like my temp. up a couple of degrees as well.

thanks for the advice folks. And yes I will be able to keep the pH at a stable 7.5 which is really nice.

Virtually all the experienced people go with Carol's approach -- discus grenades. They do fine as long as they get dropped into warm, clean water. I believe you get better results than the drip approach, which provides an environment of constantly changing pH.
