Hi All,

I went to Home Depot today to get some of the legendary Jobe's Spikes, and much to my chagrin, found that there are different varieties. I picked up the "Special Formula for Tomatoes." Is this right? They had a tomato formula and a rose formula.

The tomato consists of:

"Total Nitrogen: 8%
5.8% Ammoniacal Nitrogen
1.3% Water Insoluble Nitrogen
0.9% Urea Nitrogen
Available Phosphate: 24%
Soluble Potash: 8%
Derived from: Ureaform, Diammonium Phosphate, Triple Superphosphate, Potassium Sulfate.
Chlorine not more than 0.2%"

Is this what I want? Or is there a different Jobe's Fertilizer Spike that is better?

Thanks, and Best,

Tony

H Tony,
I used to use the palm and fern spikes (still do in the terrerium). You need to watch the ingredients and place them really deep in the supstrate. Use the keyword "jobes" and search the APD or Aquabotanic for lots of information:

I mostly use the flourish tabs for trace minerals at the roots and water column ferts for the macros.

Sorry Tony, you got the wrong kind. You want to use the formula with the least amount of phosphates. The best Jobes are the ones for palms and ferns but they are a bit hard to find. I have also used the spikes for houseplants which have a bit more phosphate than the fern spikes.
