here are some pics....
"red" wilds IMO come in 2 varieties....either Blue discus that show red tendancies or Brown discus that show red tendancies.
here is a Royal blue discus ( shape distorted by the tank glass), not showing much red....

here is a ( IMO) Blue Discus showing a lot of red ( Alenquer region 'royal' )

this is a Golden Brown discus...not much red at all....note the difference in the way the fins are marked between this & the blues.

this is a Tucurui 'red'....much redder than the Golden , & others get redder still but still this is a brown discus. again, a little distorted by the glass & the angle......
It is possible to find intermorphs between all of these colors & markings but what I am trying to show is that there are Blue reds & Brown reds, so Blues & Browns are the varieties & 'red' is a color tendancy & not a variety....all are one species... discus.....

btw...these colors are accurate on my carefully calibrated monitor.

Excellent thread. It's very interesting to see the incredible variety of colors you get with the existing wild species. Thanks for the perspective.

Hi Wildthing,
I picked these wilds from the lfs about 4 months ago. It looks like some type of wild green. Got any idea? Thanks

IMO ( tho you know what they say about opinions.......LOL ) very nice RSG....( RSG from the lower fin, metalic with spots not striations) showing few or no body spots tho (?can;t see any at least)......nice fish. nice shape

Beautiful, as always, Webber!! Thanks for sharing.

There are at times when I do a fast glimpse on my tank full of wilds that I get my discus mixed up (in colors). The only difference I see are the tones, striations, spots and shape (because some are younger than others).

But in all, I agree with you that they are fine species of discus I have ever encountered. --Angie--

Thanks for the contribution of a great thread/pics David. Another example of what I love about this site, information that cannot be had in ANY book appears regularly here. ;D
