There is a little brush attached to a wire you can pull through

I was wondering the same thing - I tried Q-tips but they were real buggers to get out.

I've used AQ's in all of my tanks for years. I run the tubes under hot water from the bathtub. The water pressure gets the crud out.

You're welcome, Jules! As a side note... you might want to get a couple of different styles. I have a couple that I use, not including the nipple brushes. I find that one is better for some parts of the AC, while the other is better for other parts.

Bottle brushes work good... Some LFS also sell actual filter cleaning kits, which are basically bottle brushes on long flexible handles. They work well and the pack includes several sizes. You may be able to find them at thatpetplace.com.

Personally I usually just use hot water. I fill up the sink, add a little bleach, soak them, and then rinse really well. It works great.

Ryan when you say bleach i get very lost. Do you use pure bleach or a mixture of bleach and soap in like your clothes washing soap such as tie and stuff like dat.

Pure bleach. No fragrance or additives. The cheap stuff. I mix a little with a sinkful of water. Once you're done you can run the equipment thoroughly under hot water and it will get rid of the bleach. If in doubt you can also add a dechlor like Amquel or Prime and that will take care of it.

Bleach works well, no adverse effects on Discus after thorough rinsing. Thanks Ryan.

Bleach is the best! Cleans and sterilizes.

I tend to be lazy on the AC cleaning, though...
