hi first let me introduce myself,my name is ben anderson i live in the west coast of scotland.i would like to give my own personnel
expierience with, these fish.and stress that i have only been keeping discus for the past 2 years, and learning all the time.In my home town
ayrshire, our water is pretty good (ph 7 from the tap). But as with most
municipal water works, they do add chemicals to our water.I started out
with 55 gal tankand only treated water with the.....usual chloride removers ...with a good rate of success, for over a year.I have of course
done all the beginner (break the rules). Adding more stock than was recommended....but read with more than the usual water changes
you can get away with this, yes and i did manage to add more stock
this wayI now have set up a 100gal tank with 14 large discus i do 30%
water changes every 3 days and now use(HMA) FILTERS removes heavy
metals from water.this works fine.I have had all the PANICS with discus..
fish not eating, the odd infection, all part of keeping livestock
But i would say do it your own way,if it works stick with it...And forget all
the DISCUS MYTHS
best wishes to you all
regards ben anderson

Hi Ben,
Welcome again to SimplyDiscus! :) Thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself and share alittle of your acquired insight here.

I have to agree with you ...
would say do it your own way,if it works stick with it...And forget all
the DISCUS MYTHS
Theres many of those that have been built up over the years.

Glad you have been able to find a system that works for you...

What kind of feeding schedule and types of food are you using ?

I'd be interested in more info on that "HMA" filter? I have never used one.

Thanks again for the intro,
al
