im getting some white worms tomorrow. I was just wondering if they're good live food comparing to bbs (which is the most nutritional according to my research). i just want to condition some apistogramma for breeding. im not sure which to feed more often. white worms or bbs or live blood worms. these foods all come from good sources, no risk of parasites etc. any opinions? thanks
**shoot just noticed the food and nutrition section. mods move there if its nessisary* sorry

they have a very high fat content, they are very good as part of a mixed diet.

Chinaboy when I was raising Bettas I use to feed white worms all the time. No Betta got sick from eating them. Keep them at a temp at or below 70 degrees. You can also use bread soaked in milk which is a very very good food them, also fruit and vegatables are also good choices. White Worms do not like light. They must be kept in complete darkness.
Did you get them and how was the quality... and of course where did you order from?

white worms are a great food for discus. they are not aquatic worms so you don't have to worry about picking up any nasties that could harm the discus.
discus love them and i never had any problems with the "high fat content" as someone mentioned. if i could raise a pound a week i would feed them everyday, but thats the problem they don't multiply as fast as you need them unless you have alot of cultures going at the same time. they are also a bit of a pain to harvest.
smaller fish like rams and dwarfs don't need as many so i think a white worm breeding program would be easier.
they like temps in the 50's and will stop breeding at around 65 degrees. depending on where you live you might need a fridge dedicated to them unless of course you don't mind raising them in the main fridge. but be warned i was tossed out of the house when i tried to put them in the main fridge :P
good luck, john

Great food for conditioning breeders and putting great growth on young fish. The high fat content aids in egg production in females and growth for fry.
If they weren't such a pain in the butt to harvest in quanities required for discus breeding, I'd feed them often.

thanks for the comments eeverybody.
sorry for the late responses. so i got a culture from a buddy. he got them from a local fish breeder. anyways, i gut load them with fish food, and i think they're awesome ffoods.
i agree it would be a pain to harvest them, but i put them in a clean yogurt cup, add some water, rinse them once. then they will bundle themselves together in a little ball, i just take tweezers and drop em in the tank. haha.
ill feed them more often (every other meal?) now that some of you mention they could be fed thsi way. ill do this for few weeks, trying to fatten up my fish, with eggs. ahha
i recently had a german ram spawn. they spawn 20 hours after i bought the pair from the LFS. my sterbai cory then came by and had a good meal.
good day
