question about Work Horse 3 ballast

Hello Simply,

I got a couple ballast from a friend. It has everything I need to put it to use other than the bulbs. From the label, I think it is a Work Horse 3 solid state-electronic model no. WH3-120-L 120V. The plugs for the power compact have a 2x2 (: :) configuration not a 4 row pin(....).

I'm wondering what kind of bulbs can I use? Any 2x2 pin configuration bulb? Also I'm wondering if anyone knows what wattage bulbs I can or can't use? My friend said they were supposed to be 65 watts but I want to be sure.

Any ideas or comments appreciated.

What is the max current? Is it 0.56amps?

If so, than the maximum total wattage for this ballast is 65W (not including ballast losses). Therefore, Im assuming this is a 2 lamp ballast where you would use 2 32W lamps. ;)

Yes the amps is .56 and I have 3 of them, each one went to one bulb. So from that, I think it can be used for 65 single watt bulb.

Oh that reminds me, I think you are totally correct too. There are two sets of wires that come out of the ballast to connect to the (::). They were both connected to one and from the looks of it, you can connect two. Correct me if I'm wrong, the only thing is, the total wattage has to be 65 watts?

;) One tube or two tubes, doesnt really matter as long as the total wattage does not exceed 65W. So, 2 32W or 1 65W or 65 1W, etc! Its the combination of tube or tubes that can not exceed 65W! ;)

So I take it the amp was .56 and the volts was 120 so what gives me 67 watts. GREAT! Learn something new everyday.

Couldn't this same ballast be used to overdrive 1 32W T8 (4') Lamp?
You could have 192W in a space occupied by only 3 1" bulbs.
