I have this 40gl long that I have set up for a grow out tank, I decided to put an AC 300 on it along with a sponge filter! I have been doing 50% water changed a day 10gl on the morning and 10gl at night. I have been using a pre filter on the uptake tube (Great Tip by the way Carol!!! :D) But this filter does create a strong curent in the tank! I am concerned about this I have the uptake tube pushed all the way over to the slowest setting but it still creates a lot of current. The juvies are 2-2.5" and seem to handel it OK but it does take effort on there part! Is there a way to slow the filter down I have already added a second sponge to no avail :-\! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I should drop down to an AC-200 but Im not sure thats enough for that size of tank!

Thanks

I have a AC300 on a 40 its fine. Keep filter at one end of tank and you should be ok. If you want you can lift the intake tube up alittle to slow it down. Or cut 2nd foam from a AC500 big and stuff it in. Steve

Steve is correct an AC 300 is fine for that size tank and putting it on one end will leave a quiet area. I run them with two internal sponges and a prefilter.

I have used AC 300 on a 29g and had no problems at all. I had it off to the side.
